Fall is the Ideal Time for Outdoor Surface Cleaning

If you’ve been stuck with scrubbing and power washing to clean your home’s exterior surfaces, you may think there’s never a good time for outdoor cleaning. But when it comes to applying Wet & Forget Outdoor, fall is actually the ideal season.

Summer’s humidity can spur organic growth — such as mold, mildew, moss, algae, and lichens. This means by the time temperatures begin to drop, you may notice streaks of black and green on your roof, siding, driveway, and other exterior surfaces.

On the other side of autumn is winter. Storing your outdoor furniture often means keeping it locked in the dark for months on end. This provides another healthy environment for organic growth to thrive.

Fall, on the other hand, offers cool temperatures and enough precipitation to maximize the effectiveness of Wet & Forget outdoor products. (We’ll dive deeper into this in a minute.)

By applying Wet & Forget Outdoor products during autumn, you can attack the organic growths spurred on by summer and help protect surfaces during the following seasons. Since a single application can help protect against stains for up to a year, you may not need to apply Wet & Forget again until the following fall.

Wet & Forget Outdoor is the Best Option for Fall Cleaning

Applying Wet & Forget is easy. There’s no need to scrub, use a pressure washer, or climb up a ladder.

Cleaning your roof and gutters is an essential fall outdoor cleaning task.

In most cases, your only step is spraying Wet & Forget Outdoor on surfaces in need of cleaning. Once applied, the spray works with wind and rain to gently lift stains over time, as well as help prevent new stains from forming.

This means you can boil down months of outdoor cleaning into a single morning applying Wet & Forget to your home’s exterior surfaces. And because Wet & Forget Outdoor products contain no bleach, no phosphates, and are non-acidic, you can use them safely on virtually every outdoor surface:

  • Aluminum, metal, and steel
  • Artificial turf, plastic, PVC, rubber, and screens
  • Asphalt, concrete, and stucco.
  • Brick, clay, marble, slate, and stone
  • Composite materials, teak, and other woods
  • Fabric, outdoor carpet, and outdoor furniture
  • Painted or stained surfaces

We’ve designed our Wet & Forget Outdoor products so application is as easy as possible. In the cases of our Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ Hose End and Wet & Forget Ready-to-Use, you’ll get everything you need to treat outdoor surfaces in one convenient package. With Wet & Forget Concentrate, all you need are our simple mixing instructions and a garden pump sprayer.

We also don’t want you running back to the store because a product unexpectedly runs out during cleaning. That’s why we make it clear how much surface area each bottle covers and sell refill bottles. By keeping it straightforward and simple, Wet & Forget removes the hassle from clearing out your fall outdoor cleaning to-do list.

Clean These Outdoor Surfaces This Autumn

Here’s a brief list of surfaces you should consider treating with Wet & Forget Outdoor products this fall:

Your back deck needs help getting prepped for winter.

  • Decks and patios
  • Diving boards and pool decks
  • Driveways, sidewalks, and walkways
  • Fences
  • Garage doors
  • Gazebos, sheds, and other outdoor structures
  • Gutters, eaves, and awnings
  • Outdoor carpets, curtains, and furniture
  • Mailboxes
  • Roofs, shingles, and siding
  • RV and boat exteriors

Each of the three products in our Wet & Forget Outdoor line can treat all of the above surfaces — and more! However, which product you use will depend on your needs.

Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ Hose End attaches to your hose and can reach distances of up to 30 feet. It can also quickly cover large surfaces of up to 2,000 square feet.

That makes it ideal for difficult-to-reach surfaces, like second-floor siding or roofs. Conversely, it’s a great tool for ridding organic growth stains from large areas, like driveways, sidewalks, and decks.

Wet & Forget Ready-to-Use comes pre-mixed and with an attached sprayer. It’s optimal for treating small-scale surfaces like small porches, outdoor furniture and carpets, or walkways. Applying before storing outdoor furniture can help keep organic growth at bay during their days in dark, damp sheds or storage areas.

Wet & Forget Concentrate offers incredible value. A single 1-gallon container makes six gallons of outdoor surface spray. Consider using it on virtually any outdoor surface, from driveways and sidewalks to porches and awnings to fences and gazebos. Keep it on hand for cleaning boats, RVs, and other seasonal vehicles before you store them over winter.

How to Maximize Wet & Forget Outdoor’s Effectiveness

Regardless of which Wet & Forget Outdoor product you use, applying it is easy. Thoroughly spray the exterior surface, and then walk away!

Again, there’s no need to rinse, scrub, or pressure wash. (In the case of patio furniture, give them a quick rinse before using again.) The spray will get to work immediately, then combine with wind and rain to gently lift stains over time.

Once treated, you should notice green growths like algae begin to clear up within a few days or weeks. Black stains caused by mold and mildew can sometimes take up to a month or two before dissipating. After your initial cleaning, you’ll likely move to an annual maintenance cycle to keep surfaces free of stains caused by organic growth.

To maximize the effectiveness of our Wet & Forget Outdoor products, make sure to follow these tips:

  • Apply on a day that’s mild, cloudy, and without forecasted wind and rain. (It’s best to apply Wet & Forget Concentrate and Wet & Forget Ready-to-Use when temperatures are at least 32 degrees Fahrenheit. For Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ Hose End, wait to apply until temperatures are at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit.)
  • Avoid applying during the hottest, sunniest part of the day.
  • Before applying, ensure surfaces are completely dry.
  • For stubborn or long-established organic growth stains, consider a second application a month or two after your initial treatment.

Additionally, while treating organic growth stains, you may encounter lichens and moss. These growths are often tough to remove, but, again, Wet & Forget Outdoor is here to help!

In the case of moss, thoroughly soak it with Wet & Forget Outdoor until the spray comes in contact with the surface the moss clings to. Within a few days or weeks, the moss will turn brown, curl, and break away from the surface. Wind and rain will help wash away any remaining moss.

For lichens, thoroughly soak this complex organicism. After 15 minutes, apply Wet & Forget Outdoor again. The second application should then penetrate the lichen’s inner layer, where it can work to detach the organic growth from the surface.
