Life's Dirty. Clean Easy.

How to Clean Your Shower & Must-Have Maintenance Tips

By Wet & Forget

Most people would like to think that their bathroom is one of the cleanest places in their home. However, if not cleaned correctly, your shower can become quite the opposite.

It is especially important to keep it clean because this is an area many of us use every day or at least every other day. You want to feel your cleanest after taking a shower, but unfortunately, it is an environment where a mess of unwanted growths can develop.

Moisture accumulates in the bathroom, which creates a perfect home for mold, mildew, and bacteria to thrive.

But it doesn’t have to be this way! With proper care, your bathroom can still be a sanitary space.

Maintaining a clean bathroom helps support overall good health and hygiene. You don’t have to clean your bathroom every day, but you should clean it at least once a week.

Wet & Forget Shower is an easy way to keep your shower clean. Spray it on after the last shower of the day and rinse it off before your next one.

Wet & Forget Shower cleans the build-up of soap scum and grime. It also takes care of mold and mildew stains on hard, non-porous areas.

Clean Your Shower with Wet & Forget

Apply Wet & Forget weekly to clean your shower.

Wet & Forget Shower is a weekly cleaner that is safe to use on shower fixtures, curtains, enclosures, glass, tiles, and even bathtubs. If you have heavy soap scum build-up, you may need to apply the product daily for a few days to achieve a clean shower.

After this, you only need to apply Wet & Forget once a week to maintain your shower.

Mold and mildew can grow on shower curtains, so remember to clean those areas as well. Wet & Forget Shower is safe to use on vinyl, rubber, nylon, and plastic shower curtains.

To avoid the accumulation of soap scum and grime, spray your liner and curtains weekly to keep them clean. For the best results, leave Wet & Forget Shower on for 8-12 hours (but no more than 24 hours) before rinsing for several minutes.

Furthermore, a pre-cleaning or several daily applications may be necessary to fully eliminate grime, soap scum, and mold and mildew build-up on hard surfaces.

Applying Wet & Forget Shower

  1. Open the flip cap on the bottle.
  2. Detach the trigger sprayer from the holster.
  3. Then gently pull on the clear tubing to uncoil the clear tubing. It will stretch out to be 3 feet long.
  4. Firmly press the white, hose tip into the opening on the cap until it clicks into place.
  5. Then slide the lever to the ‘OPEN’ setting.
  6. Rotate the nozzle on the sprayer to the desired setting (spray or stream).
  7. Finally, treat shower surfaces. When finished, turn the lever to the ‘CLOSED’ setting and return the sprayer to the slot on the handle.
  8. Leave Wet & Forget Shower on for 8-12 hours then rinse with warm water for several minutes.

Soap Scum

Soap scum can leave a film on the wall and shower curtain if you don’t rinse the area after you take a shower. It builds up in your shower over time.

Development of mold, mildew, and bacteria can occur if shower walls are covered in soap scum. Especially in tiled showers, because porous grout surfaces are a great place for growth to develop.

Soap scum causes dirty glass shower doors will have a cloudy/milky appearance. Eventually, the soap scum on the surface will breed Serratia marcescens, a dangerous health hazard and can cause a wide range of infectious diseases.

Other Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Clean

There are a few other preventative steps you can take to keep your bathroom as clean as possible. To reduce humidity, and reduce the chances of unwanted growths, leave any bathroom windows open for an hour after showering.

Or you can leave the vent fan on for 20-30 minutes after showering to lower the humidity in your bathroom. You can also leave your shower curtain and bathroom door open while doing this to allow the humidity to disperse.

It is also important to store body and hair products the right way to decrease the amount of grime and mildew growing. If you keep bottles of shampoo and conditioner on the floor of the tub or enclosure, then water collects underneath, and growths can easily start to form.

It is recommended that products be stored on shelves or in hanging organizers that do not have solid bottoms.

Don’t forget to clean the showerhead, because it can harbor Mycobacterium avium, which is a pathogen that is linked to pulmonary disease. Give your showerhead a quick spray of Wet & Forget Shower once a week to keep it clean.

If you have heavy calcium build-up on your showerhead use vinegar to break this down. Start by filling a plastic grocery bag with white vinegar and tie it in place so the showerhead can be completely submerged.

Allow it to soak in the bag overnight and then remove the bag the next day. Run the water through it to rinse it off.

Open windows to help circulate air in your bathroom.

Why You Shouldn’t Use Bleach

If you’re currently cleaning your shower with bleach, you might want to reconsider. Bleach can permanently discolor or damage bathroom surfaces.

Even if chlorine bleach is strongly diluted, it can cause colored tiles and grout to fade. Metal is also highly reactive to bleach.

If you accidentally get bleach on metal while cleaning your bathroom, it can quickly begin to wear away at the surface or cause it to rust. Bleach can destroy the protective layers on bathroom surfaces, including porcelain coats and wood finishes.

The mold gets bleached, so it is no longer visible, and the surface appears to be clean. However, the mold is still present and can easily continue to grow, even if you don’t see it anymore.

Bleach is a sufficient disinfectant, but it can be a harmful substance if used improperly. Cleaning with bleach can be a potential health risk.

If even a little bleach comes in contact with your skin, it can cause severe rashes or burns. Bleach can fill your home with a strong odor and harsh fumes, even if the area is ventilated.

Bleach has a pH of 13, which is considered highly caustic, meaning it can do a lot of damage. With a pH of 9.5, Wet & Forget Shower is more pH neutral and much safer to use in household cleaning.

Unlike bleach, Wet & Forget Shower will not cause any harm to your septic system.

You can keep bathroom surfaces sparkling-clean with one weekly spray of Wet & Forget Shower. Just spray and rinse clean to remove the build-up of soap scum, grime, and mold and mildew stains that are found on hard, non-porous surfaces.
